Seagull–

Thank you!!! :D I always appreciate the help and the time and effort it takes to do so.Time can be so valuable these days…

up2something–

Thanks for your comparison of the differences between the 2 letters…….I will definitely be reviewing your comments….so I can make sense of the 2 letters and differences. Very helpful information.

edit
The blurred one is so hard to see….I do not know how you saw the differences. I cannot make them out.

Regardless of which is which, the point I was trying to make is that the versions were indeed different. The one I had assumed was the Press version (because it is pictured with the Press envelope) is not easy to read. This is the best I got…

One other difference I spot is that some of the last words on a particular line, are not both the same in both. For example, in one version, in the line "asked her for a date", the word ‘her’ appears as the last word on a line, and in the other version, ‘for’ is the last word on the line

I think that’s a result of the single spacing vs. double spacing between sentences, which shifted things around a bit.

Trav… I wish you could work your "magic" to help determine the whole victim/victom thing. For me, that would be a big bonus on whether or not Z was the author (though I already tend to think he was).

Unfortunately it would take magic.

The info just isn’t there in the image to make it much clearer. I’ve tried already and it really didn’t help. That’s how restrictive the image resolution is.

I still think this is a major find by Seagull. Not that if we ever see the envelope, it will reveal something earth shattering, but rather that somehow, this was overlooked all these years by everybody. Thanks for always looking with fresh eyes Seagull. This proves that it always pays to go back and review this case with fresh eyes.

Here is a link to couple of posts on the subject I posted Oct 07, 2009 on Zodiackillerfacts.com.
Feel free to copy past if you like. :

It would be huge, I’d say.

Twitch/twich isn’t compelling, nor is shall. They’re interesting similarities – but not compelling, IMO.

Victom, however, would be compelling – and more than that, even.

I must confess……..if I did not have spell checker on my phone I would be spelling "victim" as "victom" It is just a fact about myself. ;)

TBH it could be anything but my feeling is that it’s something other than ‘victim’. Despite the distortion and lack of resolution there’s a possibility that even what’s there might be suggesting a thinner character other than an ‘I’. I’ve tried to match up the sizing as best I can with what is just about visible in terms of identifiable characters.

Tough to make out, but thanks for trying. I know what I WANT to see… that’s part of the problem.

To me, the 2nd letter does not look like an I, but possibly an A. Then after that, it’s just too poor quality. Anybody else see it? Looks like a leaning letter or slanted letter, not an I which stands straight up

I’m satisfied it’s an I. It’s the angle that the letter surface has been photographed at that’s causing the slant. The word is VICT–. IM, OM or ON is the query or quandary.

I don’t know if this will help. An image of the letter with the Enterprise envelope appeared in the March 1971 issue of Argosy. Morf posted that here-

At this point, I’m not sure how much of the spelling I trust!

In that tidbit from Officer Randoll (that morf posted), it states that both copies were 4th or 5th copies and "difficult" to read. So it would seem all those we have been privy to are transcribed copies from someone other than the original typist.

It could also be that the original two copies were exact matches–which would makes sense.

Unless I am misunderstanding you, the two copies of the letter that we can see, are clearly NOT exact copies.
